Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting parts of pressure vessels and process piping in accordance with Boardman standards, customer specifications and ASME code with minimal supervision. Candidates for this role should have a working knowledge of all inspection processes required such as visual inspection, hydrostatic testing and various NDE methods. The NDE methods used at boardman include MT, PT, RT and UT. The Quality Inspector will be responsible for assisting in the root cause analysis of quality issues as well as keeping track of Quality documentation throughout a project. The Quality Inspector must have applicable knowledge of ASME codes that pertain to pressure vessels and piping. The Quality Inspector will be required to have the ability to train and be trained, coordinate, and communicate effectively with all departments and personnel.

Minimum Required Experience

  • 3 years of experience as a Code Welder, Quality Inspector or equivalent ASME Section VIII and B31.3 code knowledge.
  • Work closely with production to perform inspections as required.
  • Coordinate with customer inspectors for upcoming inspection points.
  • Complete all documentation required for traceability and record keeping.
  • Perform root cause analysis on non-conformities found
  • Must have basic computer skills. (Word, Excel, Record-keeping software, Outlook, etc.)
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and be able to explain issues without becoming personally involved.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a desire to continually improve.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and use various measuring equipment to ensure product meets the fabrication tolerances.

Perferred Experience

  • Certification through ASNT for one or more of the following NDE methods: VT/PT/UT/MT and RT Film Interpretation
  • API Experience
  • OSHA safety training
  • Lean manufacturing principles and practices

Welder Position Overview

Under minimal supervision, performs welding operations to meet ASME Sec VIII quality standards. These standards include but are not limited to X-ray, U.T. and other non-destructive examinations. Must be familiar with GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, GTAW and SAW welding process. Tandem SAW knowledge is preferred but not required. This position will build ASME pressure vessels as required by supplied fabrication drawings.

Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to pass code welding certification
  • Support a philosophy of zero accidents by following all applicable safety procedures and maintaining equipment to operate in the safest way possible
  • Read and understand blue prints and welding symbols for fabrication
  • Ability to use measuring and leveling devices
  • Understands WPS’s
  • Set up and run 3G GMAW/FCAW open groove weld test
  • Ability to make RT and UT weld repairs
  • Ability to meet production scheduled hours
  • Support the efforts of Lean and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and rules
  • Create and maintain a safe and sanitary working environment
