According to the International Carbon Black Association (ICBA), carbon black is virtually pure elemental carbon in the form of colloidal particles that are produced by incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition of gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons under controlled conditions. Its physical appearance is that of a black, finely divided pellet or powder. It is most widely used as a reinforcing agent in rubber tires, but because of its unique properties, the uses of carbon black have expanded to industrial rubber products including belts, hoses, gaskets and bushings. It can also be used as a high performance coating for applications in the automotive, aerospace, marine and industrial industries.
Boardman has fabricated a number of indirect fired rotary kilns that allow this material to be processed for the carbon black industry. We have completed projects for companies such as Continental Carbon and Orion Engineered Carbons. Contact us today for your carbon black equipment needs.
